The president-elect has named Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a Stanford physician and economist famous for his anti-lockdown stance during the COVID-19 pandemic, as his choice to lead the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). If confirmed, Bhattacharya will oversee the world’s premier medical research agency, a $48 billion behemoth with 27 specialized institutes.
